The degree in Elementary Education provides a wide-ranging training, which becomes a learning step to promote the acquisition of educational, cultural and scientific competences, to fit in various educational settings (ATL, play centres, Museums, Local Authorities, Libraries, Service of Paediatrics, among others).

It also aims to enable the graduate to apply for the 2nd cycle of studies for teaching qualifications (Masters). It is intended that the graduate in Elementary Education acquires: 

• A good basic scientific training in the areas of Portuguese Language, Mathematics, Study of the Environment and Arts and Expressions;
• A wide knowledge in the area of the Educational Sciences;
• The ability to perform specialized studies both autonomous and in partnership;
• Skills to intervene in real work contexts or in entrepreneurial projects related to the areas of teaching and Educational Sciences.
